  • Supervises and directs all municipal tax assessors.
  • Approves all assessments and orders revaluations when necessary to maintain tax equity for all citizens.
  • Hears appeals filed by taxpayers on their assessments and orders changes where justified.

Tax Appeal Forms and Information

Your tax assessment appeal must be filed by April 1, 2024 in the following municipalities:  Montgomery Township, North Plainfield Borough, Raritan Borough, Somerville Borough and South Bound Brook Borough.  With reference to revaluation and reassessment districts, the petition of appeal must be filed by May 1, 2024 and those towns are as follows: Bedminster Township, Bernards Township, Bernardsville Borough, Bound Brook Borough, Branchburg Township, Bridgewater Township, Far Hills Borough, Franklin Township, Green Brook Township, Hillsborough Township, Manville Borough, Millstone Borough, Peapack-Gladstone Borough, Rocky Hill Borough, Warren Township and Watchung Borough.

The following forms are available to download to file an appeal.  The Petition of Appeal should not be filed until after you receive the postcard notice of the 2024 assessment and will not be accepted by our office until that time (generally around mid- February).  Before the end of the year, it may be helpful to contact your municipal assessor if you have questions regarding your assessment.  You may find that an appeal is not necessary.

Tax Board Proceedings

Regular Tax Board Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 3:30pm with the exception of the Re-organization meeting on Wednesday, May 1 , 2024.  The meetings are held in our offices at 27 Warren Street, Somerville, NJ on the fourth floor.

 Appeal Hearing Dates for 2024

The hearing dates for 2024 will be scheduled beginning the end of May 2024.  The judgments of the county board of taxation may be appealed to the Tax Court of New Jersey by filing a complaint with the Tax Court Management Office within 45 days from the date of the mailing of the judgment.  The Tax Court of New Jersey is located at the Richard J Hughes Justice Complex, 25 Market Street, Trenton, NJ.
