Attention all home owning veterans!!Ballot Question 2 which expanded the $250 property tax deduction to peacetime veterans overwhelmingly passed on election day. Previously the deduction was limited to those veterans with wartime service. Now all veterans with honorably discharged active duty service may apply. Reservists and National Guard personnel must be called to active service to qualify; active duty for training remains ineligible. Surviving spouses who have not remarried may also apply for the deduction. Effective December 4, 2020 peacetime veterans can apply for the deduction. Applications need to be filed with their municipal tax assessor or collector by the end of December 2020 for the 2021 tax year. Proof of service, residency and property ownership are required. COMMUNITY HOPE
Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) provides rapid re-housing to homeless veterans in addition to keeping veteran households from losing their housing when they are facing eviction. We assist in the housing search; provide access to emergency housing when possible in the interim; intervene with landlords; provide support and case management services that can include assistance with medical care, mental health or substance use treatment, child care, and job training. Temporary financial assistance may also be available to help with such expenses as security deposits, back rent, utility payments or bedding and household essentials.
