Youth Council 2020-FINAL

The Somerset County Youth Council was established to develop leadership skills and give youth a forum where their ideas and concerns can be expressed and conveyed to the Board of County Commissioners. Youth Council members will be involved in a variety of community service events and committee meetings.

To apply, you must be a student between the ages of 12 and 18 and in grades 7 through 12 who lives in Somerset County, NJ. You will need to attend monthly meetings, events, and community service activities throughout the year. Meetings will be held on the first Thursday of each month from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Human Services Building, 27 Warren Street in Somerville. By joining, you'll have the chance to make new friends, develop leadership skills, and connect with your community.

  • The deadline to apply for the 2024-2025 season is 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 31st.
  • Before applying, make sure you can commit to the meeting dates and other obligations required considering your other commitments.
  • You must also submit a letter of recommendation from a non-family adult, such as a teacher, guidance counselor, coach, or manager.
  • We'll notify you of your status (accepted, declined) by the end of June.
  • If you are accepted, you will start in September.

Being a youth council member requires dedication and commitment. The governing rules of the council are in the current Somerset County Youth Council Bylaws.
